CARA Syria Programme Symposium: ‘Voices from the Syrian Academic Community’

Sunday 5 December 2021

MECACS members are very much looking forward to attending the Council for At-Risk Academics’ (CARA) Syria Programme Symposium this week (6th-10th December 2021), focusing on ‘Voices from the Syrian Academic Community’.

Located within an UNSDG framework, the symposium, supported by The Royal Society and The British Academy, provides a platform for Syrian academics to share their research with a wider audience from the academic and humanitarian communities, highlighting the importance of local knowledge, expertise, networks, and collaboration. It is also hoped that it will facilitate new partnerships, engage funders in follow-on work and help to get Syrian higher education back on the international agenda.

The CARA Syria Programme supports displaced Syrian academics who have had to leave their academic positions after being forcibly uprooted by war. The programme facilitates opportunities to continue to contribute, grow and connect professionally during this period of uncertainty, as a group with a vital role to play in the rebuilding Syria and its higher education sector.
