Nara is an MLitt student in Middle East, Caucasus and Central Asian Security Studies. She is passionate about South Caucasus conflict resolution, Soviet post-imperial influence and the geo-politics of energy. After the completion of her postgraduate diploma, she is hoping to pursue a career in policy research and diplomacy.

Jonah is a fourth-year International Relations and History student on the St Andrews William & Mary Joint Degree Programme. He is interested in sectarianism and the factors driving ideological and proxy conflicts, especially within the Levant.

  • Vittoria Gattini

    Vittoria is an MLitt student in Middle East, Caucasus and Central Asian Security Studies. She is passionate about human rights issues from a post-colonial and feminist perspective and would like to work in a role in Central Asia or the MENA region. She is also very interested in terrorism and extremism issues.

    Will is a current fourth-year student in International Relations and Spanish. In his final year, he is pursuing an Honours Dissertation on the impacts of factionalism in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq on democratization, regional policy, and Kurdish society.

    Ella Handy

    Ella is a fourth-year International Relations student at the University of St Andrews, focusing predominantly on conflict, counter-terrorism and the Middle East. Ella wishes to work in the MENA region in the future and has a particular interest in the lingering impact of colonial and neo-colonial policies in Lebanon, Israel-Palestine and Iraq.

    Dasha Krasnodembskaya

    Dasha Krasnodembskaya is in her third year of undergraduate studies at the University of St Andrews, where she is pursuing a degree in French with International Relations and is currently carrying out a placement in Paris, France. Her interests revolve around ethnic conflict, identity and terrorism.

    Harry Stage

    Harry Stage is a fourth-year International Relations and Russian student at the University of St Andrews. He is interested in Russian and Central Asian studies with a particular focus on contemporary linguistic changes in Central Asia and the political implications of these changes. Other research interests include conflicts in the post-Soviet space, Stalinist cinema and the politics of international development.

    Caterina Barbi

    Caterina Barbi is an Italian postgraduate student currently enrolled in the MLitt in Middle East, Caucasus and Central Asia Security Studies. She completed her bachelor’s at SciencesPo Paris, majoring in Political Humanities with a concentration on the Middle East and Mediterranean basin. Her research interests include terrorism, migration, identity and communications.

    Layal Niazy is a Saudi fourth-year undergraduate student at the University of St Andrews. She studies International Relations, with a particular focus on conflicts in the MENA region and critical theory. Her research interests are mainly sociopolitical and include questions of identity, race, and gender.

    Elodie Phillips

    Elodie Phillips is a fourth-year undergraduate student from England pursuing a degree in International Relations and Russian. Her regional focus is on the post-Soviet space, although she also takes modules that concentrate on the Middle East. She is interested in looking at religion in the region as well as examining the relationship between historical processes and current relations between regional actors.
